I thought it was fitting to write about my experiences with hyperbaric oxygen therapy from the hyperbaric chamber itself. Hopefully all the increased oxygen into my brain will make me sound more intelligent.
More recently, this has probably been the most helpful service I’ve used at Cultivate Recovery. My travel schedule has been completely crazy, so using this has been really beneficial with managing fatigue.
What is mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you ask?
Basically, it is a pressurised chamber which safely increases the body’s oxygen intake by raising the barometric pressure. Under pressure, additional oxygen is dissolved into the blood plasma, resulting in more oxygen being delivered to the body’s tissues, organs and brain.
It is incredibly relaxing and on most occasions I have the most insane power nap when I go in. On other occasions, such as this one, I bring my laptop to get some work done, make some phone calls, or there is always the option to watch Netflix on the iPads provided here.
There are three atmospheric pressure options you can select; 1.2, 1.3 or 1.35. I’ve always gone for 1.35, well, because why not!? It feels a little like you’re on an airplane when the chamber pressurises, and then you’re locked into a lovely chamber of relaxation.
I’ve found every time I go in, I always exit feeling like I have a whole lot of new found energy. A 45 minute nap in here feels like I’ve been asleep for hours. So, if you’re particularly time poor and need some more rest, this is a great option!
As well as reducing fatigue, the chamber has a large number of other benefits including; boosts immune system, assists in injury recovery, decreases inflammation, fights infection, improves concentration and memory, improves metabolism, improves skin condition and reduces muscle stiffness.
